Architecture from a layman's perspective

For the last 30 years of my life Architecture according to me was just planning the proper utilization of space after an Engineer builds a building. Call it my ignorance but I had no idea that there is so much more to this amazing course until I joined GCA as a P.R.O and got first hand practical information about this course and now the only thought that crosses my mind more often than not is “why I didn’t study Architecture myself”.

Like I said after joining GCA I, know the dynamics and technicalities of this particular course and the rewards one can reap after he or she is through with the course and mind you the sky is the limit when we talk about the rewards. Unlike some other technical course Architecture is not only limited to rod, cement, bricks or software’s, it involves immense creativity which is developed in every student during this course. Architecture is also the study of human nature and behavior to a certain extent, their needs such that nice habitats can be created according to everyone’s requirements.

The world and its inhabitants are very style savvy and at the same time very competitive /aware in this fast paced times. We want the best possible stylish houses at the most cost effective price. This is where an Architect comes into play who can give us our dream house in the most efficient and economic budget, which will be very unique in design and cater to each of our requirements. I have also learnt that Architects not only design houses, they also do townships, landscapes and furniture too. In a nutshell now I know that an architect knows more than an engineer, an engineer can make a building with pillars, posts and walls but an architect puts life and color to a building with his creativity.

Finally since this article is for the magazine voice I would also like to add what my inner voice actually tells me after joining GCA. This college is the vision of a man who himself is one of the most successful architect not only from Assam but has made his mark nationally by designing buildings, endless number of human abodes, townships, etc and now whose aim is to provide quality education to the people of Northeast so that the enormous talent we have in this part of the country doesn’t have to go through the pain and troubles of staying away from their families but can avail the best education in terms of architecture here itself because our MD sir knows this course and profession like the back of his hand. Who else can better guide the young creative minds of our State.
